Plan to boost children’s healthcare, education, protection

The Union government is drawing up a plan to help children survive and thrive, Ministry of Planning and Finance director general Daw Whar Whar Maung told The Myanmar Times on October 26. Specifics details were not released for the plan, which was discussed at a meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on October 21, but it intends to address four key priorities and could be implemented before the end of the fiscal year, she said. It will aim to ensure early childhood health through access to nutrition, healthcare, water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as providing childcare birth registration, and universal cash transfers. Quality education will be addressed. Under the plan, children will be protected from violence, trafficking and exploitation, she said.
