Thailand’s 12.5-MW floating solar system goes live
The first large-scale floating solar power facility in Thailand, with a capacity of 12.5 MW, has started supplying power to the grid, China’s JA Solar Technology Co Ltd (SHE:002459), which provided the solar modules for the project, said on Wednesday.
The installation is located on an industrial reservoir and will supply electricity to the customer’s manufacturing facility via underground cables. The solar plant will be open to the general public as part of efforts to promote the development of renewable energy projects in Thailand.
JA Solar equipped the facility with its bifacial double-glass modules based on the Passivated Emitter Rear Cell (PERC) technology. Floating photovoltaic (PV) systems reduce land usage, boost the unobstructed sunlight exposure and lower module and cable temperatures, thus increasing power generation efficiency and preventing degradation, the company explained.
