Xamtay to Vietnam road construction expects delays

Construction of a new road connecting Xamtay district in Huaphan province to Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam will not be finished according to plans, say officials of the project. Head of the District’s Public Works and Transport Office, Mr Soukaseum Sonesavat, telephone interviewed by Vientiane Times last week said of the progression, We admit that the project will not be finished according to plans because the company lacks the construction equipment needed to work in this mountainous area. He said the road project was expected to be finished by the end of 2017 after work began in 2015 but is now just 70 percent complete with only the surfacing to be completed by the end of the year but that the project contractor will also build sidewalks. A project official said that the Huaphan Public Works and Transport Department were discussing the delay and can be expected to have a reply for the general public in the near future.
