LANIC launches full domain management

The Lao National Internet Centre under the auspices of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications officially launched full management and operation of Laos’ internet top-level domain name, dot la (.la) on January 23. Laos’ internet top-level domain name dot.la (based on its country code) was recently brought back a few months ago, after years of being leased to a foreign company. The launch was attended by more than 100 concerned officials in the information and communication technology sector. Dot la is the Lao People’s Democratic Republic or Laos country domain name. Its popularity has grown since it was officially launched back in 1996. According to LANIC officials, over the years, the ministry has been training its staff, drawing up regulations and making other preparations in readiness for the full management and operation of the dot la domain once it was returned.
