WHO expands support to health sector

The World Health Organisation has forecast a budget of over US$2 million in assistance to Laos from 2017 to 2018 to improve the health sector in the country. On February 21, the WHO confirmed that it will continue to provide around US$2 million in support each fiscal year from 2017 to 2021. Laos can also submit proposals to request increased support in the event of a disease outbreak which requires response such as dengue and other diseases, health officials said. The agreement signing ceremony was held On February 21 in Vientiane between WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, Dr Shin Young-soo and Minister of Health, Associate Prof. Dr Bounkong Syhavong and head of the Health Department at the Ministry.
