New market building for Sittwe

A new building which will be constructed to replace the May Yu market in Sittwe township, Rakhine State, will include facilities such as a playground, hall, cinema and restaurants, as well as 268 shop lots offering goods such as clothing, commodities and electronic products. Construction of the market, which began some time back, is expected to be completed in two years. The three-storey complex will have an annex accommodating 80 home shops. Out of the 268 shop lots, 114 shops from the ground level will be given free-of-charge to shop owners from the old May Yu market. Other lots will be sold at reasonable prices, according to U Oo Kyaw Yin, chair of Western Shining Star Public Company Ltd, which is responsible for the construction of the market.
