Oudomxay radio, television transmitters officially opened

New radio and television transmission stations built in Xay district, Oudomxay province, and funded by the government of Vietnam, officially began transmitting on November 30. Construction of the facilities cost more than 38.7 billion kip, funded by grant assistance from Vietnam. Work on the project began in January 2014 and ended last month. The two transmission stations were built by Chitchaleun Construction Co., Ltd. This latest project is in line with an agreement made at a meeting held a few years ago between the Lao-Vietnamese Cooperation Commission and other officials from the two countries. The project was implemented by Vietnam Television and the Mass Media Department of Laos’ Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. The Vietnam government also provided an office, staff housing and other facilities. The power capacity of the FM radio station is 20kW while that of the television station is 10kW. The stations will be used to transmit useful information to local communities. The Vietnamese government has also provided assistance to Lao National Television by financing improvements to radio and television stations in Champassak and Luang Prabang provinces, as well as supplying technical staff and essential equipment to Lao National Television.
